"I would like to thank the president and secretary general of the IndustriALL Global Union for their strong position. I believe that in recent years, GM and the Georgian Union of Metallurgy, Mining and Chemical Industry Workers have chosen the right path of cooperation. It is truly appreciated and is something to be proud of!
Cooperation with the professional unions is very important for Georgian Manganese and it has yielded a lot of fruitful results in many areas, including a significant improvement in the working and social conditions for our employees. Georgian Manganese is ready to continue its fruitful dialogue with trade unions and further develop social dialogue," said Nikoloz Chikovani, the Special Manager of Georgian Manganese.
It should be noted that the IndustriALL Global Union positively assesses GM's activities. The letter from Valter Sanches, the Secretary General of the IndustriALL Global Union reads:
"I am pleased to learn that both parties participate in workshops on social dialogue, including those organized by the IndustriALL Global Union, and hold result-oriented meetings on a regular basis. As a result, social benefits and legal guarantees of 5,500 workers at Zestafoni Ferroalloys Plant and the Chiatura Mining and Processing Plant were improved. In accordance with the new collective agreements, including annual salary indexation, introduction of bonuses, increase of wages, overtime and night tariff, and increase of the number of days of paid leave. I am also pleased to learn that negotiations between the company and the union have resulted in a decision to spend the part of the personal income tax benefit received from teh government on reimbursement of expenses to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and to distribute the remaining funds on workers. Furthermore, I follow with great attention the company's environmental efforts, which benefit all the local communities, including land remediation after manganese mining, installation of high-quality air purification system and air monitoring station at the ZFP, daily cleaning and washing of Chiatura streets to reduce pollution, significant decrease in road transportation and increase in the use of rail for transporting ore to adn from Zestafoni Ferroalloys Plant and the Chiatura Mining and Processing Plant."
